Monte Warden & The Wagoneers just released their new EP "Doghouse Flowers", their first multi-song release in over 35 years. To celebrate Monte tells us about the title song that he co-wrote with Brandi Warden. Here is the story:
Brandi and I wrote this knowin' we wanted to write a straight and true Memphis-style Rockabilly number. We purposely and prominently placed Elvis and Johnny Burnette as our North Star. A Lauderdale Courts Buffet, if you will (IYKYK).
Way back a million years ago, right after Warner Bros fired me, Brandi worked in sales at a radio station in town and a chick there was ALWAYS gettin' 'I'm sorry' flowers from her loser boyfriend - seein' the latest bouquet on the co-workers desk one day, Brandi said - 'She is constantly gettin' those Doghouse Flowers'.
She wasn't even hardly writin' yet then. She kept that phrase loaded and locked in the chamber for years - and when we started ruminatin' on writin' a rockabilly, the phrase presented itself with ribbons and bows. Here we are this mornin', Doghouse Flowers is #19 NATIONWIDE and we're fixin' to pick it (again) on The Opry! It remains the ONLY Rockabilly record on the charts and the 1st one in years!
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself below and learn more here including details about Monte's return to the Grand Ole Opry this weekend
