Singled Out: Dylan Bradley's Read My Mind

Country/Americana artist Dylan Bradley just release his brand new single "Read My Mind," and to celebrate we asked him to tell us about the track. Here is the story:

"Read My Mind" came from a songwriting contest I was participating in with my old band mates. The rules were that we had to write a song every day for a month straight. We wanted to try and see how far we could push our creativity through the process. Towards the end of the month-long contest, I was going on dates with a girl (My now girlfriend). After taking her to a Zach Bryan concert and staying up till 7:30 AM, I felt that something was surprisingly so right. So I ended up writing the first verse and chorus to "Read My Mind" the next day.

During that process, I wanted the song to capture more than just the excitement of falling for somebody but that uncertainty you have when you feel that something is too good to be true. I wanted it to feel like you're already starting to picture the life that could come after those first few months together. That's where lines like "Do you see rose beds and a swing on the porch / Finger painted pictures, pencil marks lining the door" came from. The beauty of that second verse is that I had my two best friends, John Wilcox (Producer) and Liam Slater (Artist and Singer songwriting in Nashville), in the studio to help me finish the song. They both spear headed that idea and it completed the song perfectly. It tied in the vulnerability to the question in the chorus, but also the hope behind it. It isn't really a song about wondering whether somebody loves you-it's about realizing you might have found somebody who understands you without you having to explain yourself. I wanted the recording to leave enough room for that emotion to come through and let the lyric be the center of the song.

I naturally gravitate toward songs about heartbreak, memories, and looking backward, but this song is about allowing yourself to look forward. There will always be some uncertainty in it, because nobody really knows where a relationship is going to take them in the beginning, but sometimes you meet somebody who makes you feel completely different than you have before. "Read My Mind" is about that moment when the person standing in front of you feels so familiar that you can't help but wonder if they're imagining the exact same life you are.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself below and learn more here
