Hallie Grace just released her brand new indie pop album "MOTIVATION," and to celebrate we asked her to tell us about one of the songs and she selected "Toxic." Here is the story:
"Toxic" wasn't born from one explosive moment or one unforgettable person. It came from something quieter and heavier-the slow accumulation of small hurts, unspoken compromises, and moments that didn't seem significant on their own, but added up over time. It grew out of living gently in a world that doesn't always reward gentleness, of learning how easy it is to disappear when you're always the one apologizing, smoothing things over, and making yourself smaller to keep the peace.
There's a particular exhaustion that comes from moving through life this way-when being polite turns into being overlooked, when patience turns into permission for others to dismiss, disrespect, or take advantage. Eventually, something shifts. The patience runs out. The silence gets louder. "Maybe you're where the problem lies." That line echoes through this song-not as an excuse, but as an explanation of how frustration and anger can be shaped by years of being unheard.
On the album, "Toxic" marks a turning point. The songs leading up to it were written during periods of drive and clarity, when motivation felt accessible and the future still seemed neatly outlined. This is where that momentum starts to fracture. The writing becomes rougher, less polished, and more honest, mirroring a season where inspiration didn't arrive on schedule and resilience felt harder to summon. "Toxic" sits in that in-between space-where vulnerability replaces ambition, and telling the truth matters more than sounding put together.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself below and learn more here
