Singer-songwriter Russell Jamie Johnson has released his brand new single, "Gabrielle," which comes from his forthcoming self-titled album that is due out May 15.
Here is the official background on the song: Rooted in a moment of real-life betrayal, the track captures the disorienting shock of discovering infidelity and the abrupt unraveling of a relationship. The single traces the emotional fallout that followed, including a breakup and the swift reality of her moving on with someone new just days later. Rather than dramatizing the experience, Johnson leans into restraint, allowing the weight of what happened to unfold with quiet intensity.
"'Gabrielle' came from a strange, almost surreal moment," said Russell Jamie Johnson. "I found out my girlfriend was cheating on me through Venmo, which felt as impersonal as it gets. But I didn't write the song until about a year later, when I realized I was still holding onto feelings I thought I'd already moved past.
"That was the part I couldn't ignore. How something that ended so badly could still linger. The song lives somewhere between storytelling and confession. It's me trying to make sense of how someone who meant everything to you doesn't just disappear overnight, even when maybe they should. It's about that space where heartbreak turns into memory, and you're left figuring out why it still matters."
