Wolfgang Van Halen spoke about his uncle Alex's plans to work with Steve Lukather to put together a new Van Halen album during a recent appearance on Trunk Nation on SiriusXM. Here is an excerpt of the interview where the album was discussed:
Host Eddie Trunk: "You know that your uncle made a lot of news recently when he said that there's this unreleased record that Lukather is going to play some guitar. He did say you played some stuff on it as well. What from your perspective can you tell the audience about that?"
Wolfgang: "I mean, I haven't played anything yet. So not sure what Al is talking about in that respect. It could have been, they could be older ideas that maybe we worked on, you know, 15 years ago or something. Because there was a lot a couple of years where dad, Al, and I were just jamming in the studio for, you know, three years or something. But yeah, I really do think it's more of Al's thing to talk about. I'm really just here in a position of helping him with whatever he needs. If he needs bass on something, I'm there. If he needs anything else, I'm there. Whatever he needs. But it's definitely his thing to spearhead and I'm in a support position."
Trunk: "So, as of now, you don't really know what the material is. You haven't talked to him. You don't know what the source of it, the timeline of it, what it actually was. So, you haven't heard anything about it. And do you, Wolf, do you get involved in, you know, it's been really cool because people have always wanted VH reissues and we're now seeing like a 5150, a box set is coming. There was a Four Unlawful one. There was the box set of the Roth years. There's been some stuff starting to come through the pipeline. Do you get involved in that at all or is that not you?"
Wolfgang: "I'm there in a support position as well. Al is the decision guy. I'm just there to help him with whatever he needs. So, I mean, again, I'm just in that support position."
