Alex Van Halen Knighted In The Netherlands

Alex Van Halen was named Knight in the Order Of The Netherlands Lion (Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw) during an event in his childhood home of Nijmegen on Tuesday (September 1st).

The legendary drummer traveled back to Nijmegen to be presented with the honor by Nijmegen mayor Hubert Bruls at a ceremony at the Berchmanianum at Radboud University, according to the Van Halen Newsdesk.

Alex said of the honor in a video, "My cousin organized most of this. But I'm very grateful. " think institutions like this are important in people's lives because it adds a dignity and a gravity to what we do. Whether it's actually deserved or not, that's another question. But we can live up to it. That's the whole thing, is you gotta have something to live up to."
