Singled Out: Anger Within's Through The Eyes Of The Bedouin

Anger Within just released their new EP "Through The Eyes Of The Bedouin" and to celebrate we asked Wulf Morris to tell us about the title track. Here is the story:

The song "Through The Eyes of the Bedouin" was decades in the making for me. The seed was actually planted for the idea, when I was a little kid. My parents were collegiate English professors & they decided to teach at King Saud University in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, & I was with them at 8 years old, during this time.

Back then, Riyadh was not quite "westernized" yet, & there was still very much an "old" Riyadh feel to the city. There were a lot of old mud brick buildings, plus a lot of Bedouins in the Souk, (marketplace/bazaar.) Not only was I exposed to these surroundings at a very young age, but I was already into music at that time, & was exposed to a lot of the traditional Bedouin music played around the city. This had a tremendous impact on me.

The opening riff to the song itself, has an almost Metallica "Orion" type feel to it, then goes into an old school thrash hardcore riff for the verses & chorus. For the middle section, it transitions into something that resembles traditional Bedouin music. It has lots of groove & includes a sitar like sounding guitar, which I found out the sitar actually originated in the Middle East, but I definitely enjoy not only the Middle Eastern music that incorporates it, but also eastern Indian music, (which people might be more familiar with.) This song also gave me an opportunity to do something different lyrically. I wanted to step away from the political & social commentary that we normally do, but also the personal perspective that some of the songs have. This song gave me the opportunity to tell a fictional story, (which we don't normally do,) of Bedouins in ancient times.

Whenever I write songs I always try to do something that's a little bit different, something that not every hardcore or thrash & death metal band are doing. This song definitely gave me that opportunity, & whether or not we achieved that, (that's really up to the listener,) I do feel like we did achieve something different with this song, & that's always been the goal.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself below and learn more here
