(CCM) A little country, a little rock n' roll, all original. This is Rodeo Mouth, who has been quietly making a name for themselves amidst the Nashville dive bar and club scene the past several years.

And today, they've released their debut 10-track album, Terrestrial Thrills.
Terrestrial Thrills is a sonic journey of the strange, the adventurous, the humorous, and the curious. Glistening with a nostalgic wanderlust spirit, Terrestrial Thrills is a decade worth of songs conjured from the mind of songwriter Paul Howard, along with his bandmates Emmett Rozelle (lead guitar), Anthony Fili (bass), and Dany Turcios (drums).

Their self-dubbed "Acid Americana" sound is quite fitting for this eccentric quartet, and look no further than their opening track as the flagship for this moniker.

"Fanny's Farmhouse" sets the tone, whisking listeners away to rural middle American roads, stumbling upon a particular good old fashioned greasy spoon diner. But there's an eerie David Lynchian quality to the song, almost the kind of place you visit and might never leave. Cruising at a horse trot's pace equipped with banjo (Taylor Shuck) and fiddle (Marie McGlone), the subtle chorus changes are a nod to the listener who actually listens, as the years of the diner go up by the decade: "95 years at the same address / You're family you're a friend / You ain't no strange guest."

The band's raucous debut single and live fan favorite, "Sunset Blues Revisited," is an edgy high-speed banger offering an electrifying jolt of energy from the jump and never ceases, as Howard embarks on a wild LA-based odyssey with a chosen lover of the night, encapsulating feelings of youth and uninhibited freedom. Most of the instrumentation heard is courtesy of Duncan Shea (Becca Mancari, Those Darlins), as it was initially recorded in an East Nashville basement in 2016, and revisited in 2023.

The cross-eyed drunken cowboy number that is "There's a Boot in My Wallet" delves into the descending dissociative mind of the narrator who finds themselves under the spell of a substance-induced paranoia while simultaneously enjoying the cheap thrills of night life.

A reverbed can crack and loose n' bluesy slide guitar sets the scene, which Howard focused around a familiar East Nashville bar, Mickey's Tavern. With the title alone sparking confusion, interpretation, and wonder, it sounds like something a drunken back-alley dweller might yell at passerby. Nonsense - or is it? Regardless, the chorus is catchy as anything, making for a damn good barroom sing-along. The Halloween single features an unsettling yet can't-look-away music video that looks like something Harmony Korine and Les Claypool might put together on a shoestring budget.

Other notable tracks include their March 2025 single, "Leaving for Phoenix," and their closing track, "Better Try Again/Billsboro Blues," which features Van Coffey (George Jones, Bellamy Brothers) on steel guitar and dobro. Their final single leading up to the album release, "Pretty Sweet Deal," hit streaming on April 20th, 2026.

The majority of songs were tracked live to tape at The Bomb Shelter in East Nashville (Margo Price, Alabama Shakes) with engineer Drew Carroll, which captures the raw, unfiltered magic of the music. There's a freedom and looseness to their songs - a very human, imperfect element, which is more and more appreciated as AI takes center stage as the villain in music. Just ask Shooter Jennings - he might just think fondly of Terrestrial Thrills in this regard.

In an over-saturated music market with so much sounding the same, Rodeo Mouth's album stands out as something noticeably different, raw, and identifiable. It can be picked out of a crowd, and there's never a doubt AI had anything to do with it.

Their album release show will be at The Villager Tavern in Nashville on May 30th, 2026, the same day they released their debut single two years ago. Stream the album here
