David Nail Announces Flowers, His First Album In A Decade

(117) When David Nail wrote with Anderson East for the first time in 2023, neither man imagined the creative journey they were embarking on. "The Crown" led to "Break Yours Too." That opened the door to inviting in longtime Nail collaborator and all-around musical polymath, multiple GRAMMY-, CMA-, and ACM-winning Lori McKenna, as well as profound songwriting forces Trent Dabbs and Melissa Fuller. Sprinkle in such musical forces, including pianist Philip Towns, percussionist Darren Dodd, bassist Gregg Garner, guitarists Shaun Richardson and Weston Stewart. The result is FLOWERS, due August 21.

Flowers is the acclaimed vocalist's first full-length project in ten years. Nail, highly regarded as one of Country music's best vocalists, would be quick to point out that he has consistently released music since departing his major label home, MCA, in 2017. Five EP projects and a smattering of singles over the decade have helped hone his path, refine his craft, and learn the ins and outs to follow the independent journey a true artist travels. A peak example of an artist who lets the music lead, not the commercial viability, Flowers is the culmination of all the living and creativity.

"I think what makes this album special is that I never intended to make one," said David Nail, adding, "It started with a song, which then became 3, then 5, and eventually 12, 14. These are 10 of those songs, written over the course of a year and a half. I never once went in thinking about anything other than writing the best song possible, something I'd be excited to play my wife when I got back home. It was unlike any process I'd used in the past, and Anderson's studio is not only the most inspiring place I've ever been creative in, but his laid-back personality was the perfect contrast to my chaotic, anxious, always-in-a-rush way that I'd been known for throughout my career. With the exception of Lori McKenna, I'd never worked with any of the other songwriters or musicians, and their fresh outlook contributed to what I believe is one of the more honest and original things I've ever been able to be part of."

"The Crown" and "Fare Thee Well" were the appetizers for what became the larger project, and on Friday, Nail offers up "She Knows" as a most satisfying first course. Pre-save HERE.

David revealed this long-awaited moment last night on the most famous stage in Country music, the Grand Ole Opry. This coincides with an exclusive reveal from Rolling Stone.

While this moment exemplifies David Nail's music finding a new realm, it also represents the strength of his creative development. MCA EVP/Head of A&R Stephanie Wright emerged from the Opry wings to surprise him onstage with five new RIAA certifications. Recognizing major digital single streaming and sales milestones across his catalog, he recieved awards for "Whatever She's Got," now triple Platinum, "Nights on Fire," "Red Light," "Let It Rain," all Certified Platinum, and "Kiss You Tonight," now Gold
