(fcc) Three-time Grammy Award-winning superstar Tim McGraw has released two brand new songs, "Pawn Shop Guitar" and "Song for America," marking his first new music in over a year. "Pawn Shop Guitar" is an autobiographical track written following a restorative year of reflection and rest for McGraw, while "Song for America" arrives just in time to celebrate America's 250th birthday.
In "Pawn Shop Guitar," (also the namesake of his upcoming summer tour) McGraw shares the memory of selling his class ring to purchase a cheap guitar from a pawn shop in his hometown. He recounts his roots as a struggling young musician, recalling "It was the best of times and the worst of times/singin' on street corners for dollars, quarters and dimes." Co-written with Tom Douglas, the song offers a glimpse into McGraw's origin story and the sacrifices he had to make along the way.
"Song for America" is an anthemic ode of gratitude to the fabric and framework of the United States. Written by JT Harding and Tom Douglas, the song is a patriotic celebration of what it means to be American-from the diversity of our opinions to the vast geographical landscape.
The lyrics additionally pay tribute specifically to American troops and veterans, with McGraw singing "Tears rain in Arlington for soldiers young and brave/white crosses on a field of green/above Old Glory waves."
"This is the first new music I've put out in over a year. It's no secret that over the last few years I got sidelined with back and knee issues," McGraw shares. "That time was challenging on so many levels, but one of the positive things that came out of it, aside from physically being back to 100%, was that it gave me time to reflect on my life and to write songs. I was able to really dig into some personal stories in those songs for the first time."
Up next for McGraw is the kickoff of his 2026 North American "Pawn Shop Guitar" summer headline tour on July 9 in Bethel, NY. The 33-date run features three stadium dates at Hersheypark Stadium (Hershey, PA), Fenway Park (Boston, MA), and Target Field (Minneapolis, MN) with special guests The Chicks and Lady A, along with tour support 49 Winchester and Timothy Wayne.
