(Lavoro Media) The Steve Bardwil Band today release their second single, "Scarecrow Dreams" off their upcoming new album Stardust In Disguise set for release July 17, and once again produced by 11-time GRAMMY Award winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (U2, Elton John, White Stripes).
Recorded at the legendary East West Studios in Los Angeles, California, Bardwil drew inspiration to craft the song after watching the Bob Dylan biopic - A Complete Unknown.
"After watching the Bob Dylan biopic - A Complete Unknown, I was inspired to write some new songs and started thinking about things I might write about," says Bardwil. "Shortly thereafter I woke up in the middle of the night with the words, "scarecrow in the field and rabbits on the run" looping in my head. As I sometimes do when I get crazy thoughts while sleeping, I got up and wrote them down. When I woke up that morning, I had no memory of those scarecrow words that had come to me until I saw them written down. I immediately thought of the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz remembering that he wanted to have a brain. Then I thought of Pinocchio and thought this scarecrow wants to become a person... he wants to be alive. I came upon the idea that the song could be about a guy and a girl, both looking to find love and start their path together in a field with a scarecrow who dreams of being alive... and that night all their dreams come true."
Bardwil befriended renowned violinist Scarlet Rivera while supporting the band's debut album last year and invited her to play on their new album as well as joining the band for some live gigs. Rivera, who is best known for her work with Bob Dylan on his 1976 album Desire and as part of the Rolling Thunder Review, in addition to her own music releases, has also appeared on albums by Tracy Chapman, Keb Mo, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Indigo Girls, and the late David Johanson.
"It feels like having Scarlet play on the new album was so meant to be," offers Bardwil. "I watched the Bob Dylan Rolling Thunder Review film which featured Scarlet, and her violin playing on songs such as Dylan's "Hurricane" blew me away! I thought: how cool would it be to have Scarlet play on a new song I had written about a scarecrow? Low and behold, a week later I was performing at a charity event, and there she was playing the same event. That evening, I asked her if she would be interested in playing on a track for our upcoming album and the rest is history."
For Bardwil, writing continues to be a cathartic process as well as artistic expression, a process that yields songs drawn from his own personal experiences and expansion blending new colorful stories into his vibrant mosaic.
In addition to Bardwil on lead vocals/acoustic guitar, the new songs feature a dynamic lineup of musicians including Johnny Stachela (lead guitar), Max Butler (keys), Vince Fossett (drums), Aaron Leibowitz (saxophone), Catherine Jayne (vocals), Frank Coglitore (bass), and Scarlet Rivera (violin).
"Scarecrow Dreams" is accompanied by the official video directed by award-winning producer Andrew van den Houten. Shot on the picturesque California coastline, the video features the band performing while capturing the lyrics of the song focused on a man and woman searching for love and a scarecrow that dreams of being alive... as all their dreams come true.
