(IC) The Juice WRLD and Marshmello collaboration "We Don't Get Along" has been released. Lushly melodic and powerfully introspective, the new single arrives alongside an appropriately psychedelic, claymation-style music video.
"We Don't Get Along" reunites two kindred spirits for a song about persevering through pain. Gothic post-punk guitar intertwines with crisp trap percussion as Juice coasts through, layering bittersweet melodies: "Pain in my cardiac matches the pain in my brain / Living in the shadows, you know where to find me at / The place where they don't dare speak good things." But as the cathartic beauty of it all sets in, he keeps an eye trained on the future: "Let my story be told."
Directed by Johnny McHone (Robot Chicken, M.O.D.O.K.), the "We Don't Get Along" video has a handmade feel, opening on Juice walking through nature before he suddenly transforms into a literal head in the clouds. He drifts and soars amidst the purple-hued prismatic ether, sometimes crossing paths with a bobbing Marshmello, and sometimes morphing into shapes that bring his lyrics to life. Fans who watch closely will catch Juice's signature "999" hidden along the way.
The new single is a fitting follow to last year's Legends Never Die (5 Year Anniversary Edition) the expanded reissue of Juice's celebrated, chart-busting third album - which also happens to contain his and Marshmello's very first collaborations: the RIAA-certified 4x Platinum "Come & Go" and the 2x Platinum "Hate the Other Side" with Polo G and The Kid Laroi. The duo's unique chemistry was also captured on the 2022 single "Bye Bye," and Marshmello later appeared in the Fortnite-themed video for Juice's 2024 hit "Empty Out Your Pockets."
Thankfully, Juice's story is indeed still being told. Legends Never Die (5 Year Anniversary Edition) only builds on an LP that found him going deeper lyrically and broader musically. New additions from "All Life Long" and "The Way" featuring XXXTENTACION expanded a tracklist that additionally includes team-ups with The Weeknd, Halsey, and Trippie Redd. Upon release in 2020, Legends Never Die not only topped the Billboard 200 chart, but also simultaneously landed five songs in the Hot 100's top 10 - a feat matched only by Drake and the Beatles.
That deluxe expansion came just months after the late 2024 release of the final Juice WRLD album, The Party Never Ends, a fitting celebration of a once-in-a-generation creative force with production from Nick Mira and Cashmere Cat, and features from Eminem, Offset, Fall Out Boy, and The Kid LAROI, among other collaborators. The set was led by "AGATS2 (Insecure)" with Nicki Minaj and arrived just in time for Juice WRLD Day 2024, the Chicago event's fourth and final installment, which included performances from the likes of Kodak Black, Lil Yachty, Cordae, G Herbo, Hotboii, Nardo Wick, STAR BANDZ, Polo G, and Trippie Redd.
