(BT) Multi-platinum singer/songwriter Dermot Kennedy has released his latest single "Honest", which is the third track to be unveiled from Dermot's anticipated forthcoming album The Weight of the Woods, out April 3rd on Interscope Records.
In the run-up to the album release, Dermot recently surprised fans at intimate pop-up shows in both Los Angeles and New York City, with more up-close-and-personal shows to follow at record stores in the UK next week. The fortunate attendees in the U.S. were treated to a mix of originals and thrilling covers, with NYC's event landing fittingly on St. Patrick's Day.
Dermot also performed at the Oscar Wilde Awards in LA, hosted by the U.S.-Ireland Alliance ahead of the Academy Awards on March 12th. It was also just announced that Dermot will perform at the UK's Radio 1's Big Weekend on May 24th, alongside Olivia Dean among others on the main stage.
The release of "Honest" comes on the heels of the anthemic, passionate lead single "Funeral," and the stunning track "Refuge." "Funeral" is climbing the Triple A radio chart where Dermot has a history of strong support.
The Weight of the Woods was largely written and recorded in a studio down the road from Dermot's home in rural Ireland, together with close collaborator Gabe Simon [Noah Kahan, Lana Del Rey]. They also recorded additional material for the record in Nashville. The poetry and music across the fourteen new tracks draw inspiration, energy, and strength from Dermot's native Ireland. He explains, "To me, the album is a beautiful homegrown thing with Irish instruments and an Irish story. There's a forest behind my house, which is a haven for my sense of wonder. It's a peaceful place where I can escape. I've entertained the idea of living somewhere else, but I don't think I'd be happy anywhere else."
With a refreshed approach to his songwriting and production, Dermot has peeled away the layers to let his stunning voice shine through brighter than ever. "If I get up in a pub with just a guitar or a piano, I'm certain that I can sing to a room full of people. It's where I'm the most comfortable. I wanted that element to be front-and-center on this album" he says.
North American tour dates will be announced soon. Known for his passionate and powerful live performances, his largest headline tour to date in the UK and Europe will kick off in May, including a return to London's O2 on June 5th. In July, Dermot returns home for two headline shows at Dublin's Aviva Stadium, the home of Irish Rugby.
