(The Quinntessential) Buzzed about Country artist Elizabeth Nichols is officially sounding the alarm with the release of her infectious new single, "Paul Revere," available everywhere now.
Inspired by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's iconic poem "Paul Revere's Ride," the clever, high-energy anthem transforms a cornerstone of American literature into a modern-day warning call for women everywhere: the losers are coming.
The track has already proven to be a runaway success online before its official release, earning more than 10 million views across social media teasers and inspiring over 1,300 TikTok creations from fans eager to join the rebellion.
Blending sharp wit, American history and catchy melodies, "Paul Revere" reimagines the storied midnight ride through the lens of modern dating culture. Instead of warning the colonies "by land or by sea," Elizabeth warns women of cheating, misbehaving men on the way, substituting trucks and Ubers as the contemporary means of arrival. Opening with the instantly recognizable line, "Listen, my ladies, and you shall hear...," the song tips its hat to the famous poem while confidently making the story her own. Leaning fully into its Revolutionary spirit, Nichols and her co-writers Steve Rusch and Laura Veltz infuse military-style drumming and a playful "Yankee Doodle"-inspired flair that feels tailor-made for summer bonfires and Fourth of July playlists alike, especially as America's 250th anniversary celebrations begin.
The former law student and bookworm has long enjoyed blending societal commentary, wit and humor into her songwriting, so the concept came naturally with inspiration drawn from a tour stop in Boston.
"We try to do a hop on, hop off tour everywhere we go on tour and when we played a show in Boston, we got to see the Old North Church where the lanterns were famously hung to signal the British invasion and Paul Revere kicked off his midnight ride. It got me thinking, if it weren't for Paul running his mouth around town, my favorite holiday might not have existed," shared Elizabeth Nichols. "Good things can come from spilling the tea. It can be downright patriotic."
With its viral momentum, tongue-in-cheek lyricism and distinctly American spirit, "Paul Revere" positions Elizabeth as one of Country music's most inventive young storytellers who has caught the attention of fans and the industry alike. Named to several "artist to watch" lists including Amazon Music, Pandora, Country Now, Taste of Country, Women of Country, Holler, Entertainment Focus, All Country News, Country Minute and more, Nichols has wracked up more than 60 million streams and exploded her social media following to nearly one million. In her whirlwind year since stepping away from law school to pursue music full time, she has released her first EP, Tough Love, made her Grand Ole Opry and Stagecoach debuts, performed her first show ever and subsequently graced several bucket list stages including the Kentucky Derby, The Bluebird Cafe, CMA Fest and more. She also received the surprise of a lifetime when "I Got A New One" received the Kellyoke treatment on The Kelly Clarkson Show which shot the song to No. 1 on the iTunes Country chart (for weeks) and landing in the top of playlists across the globe. In April, she made waves online after performing on The Kelly Clarkson Show in a full circle moment.
Recently returning from a European and Australian tour where she headlined her first ever show (which sold out in minutes, requiring a venue upgrade), Nichols has more shows on the way including major festivals like Lollapalooza. With more new music on the way, 2026 is sure to continue to flourish for the burgeoning young talent.
"I feel I should note, my love of the fourth is completely unrelated to my love of spilling the tea.... Probably," added Nichols.
