(Jensen) Renowned 'ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro has reimaged "Golden" from the Hit Movie KPop Demon Hunters as the first single from his "Pop Experience" cover album that reinterprets a selection of contemporary pop songs through his signature instrumental style, which will arrive on July 10th, 2026 on digital and CD.
Known for pushing the boundaries of what the 'ukulele can achieve, Shimabukuro brings fresh perspective and nuance to a diverse tracklist that spans chart-topping hits and introspective ballads. With Pop Experience, he transforms familiar melodies into expressive, genre-defying arrangements that highlight both his technical mastery and deep musical sensitivity.
"I've always loved taking songs that mean something to people and seeing how they feel on the 'ukulele," says Shimabukuro. "Pop Experience brings together eight tunes I've loved over the years, from Sarah McLachlan's 'Angel' to Olivia Rodrigo's 'Vampire.' I really enjoyed working on this project, exploring a different side of songs I thought I already knew. I'm just grateful I get to share it and hope it connects with someone else too."
In the lead-up to the announcement, Shimabukuro has already generated significant buzz online, with performances of his cover of "Golden" gaining traction across social media platforms. Videos of the viral arrangement have circulated widely, drawing enthusiastic reactions from fans who praise his ability to translate a contemporary pop anthem into a rich, expressive 'ukulele piece.
"When I first heard "Golden" from the KPop Demon Hunters movie, I knew it was something special," says Shimabukuro. "It's the kind of song that invites you in and allows you to interpret it in your own way. It's one of those tracks that reminds you why music matters - to bring people together over the simple joy of a song. Releasing it now feels so exciting. I hope it never leaves your head, because it's been living in mine ever since I first heard it!"
On Pop Experience, each song is carefully reimagined, blending intricate fingerwork, dynamic rhythms, and layered textures that elevate the 'ukulele beyond its traditional role. From the haunting introspection of Eilish's "What Was I Made For" to the emotional resonance of Grande's "We Can't Be Friends," Shimabukuro captures the spirit of the originals while making each piece unmistakably his own.
The album continues Shimabukuro's legacy of innovation, following a career that has seen him collaborate across genres and captivate audiences worldwide. Pop Experience will be available on all major streaming platforms and on CD upon release.
The album features eight tracks:
Golden (HUNTR/X, EJAE, AUDREY NUNA, REI AMI)
Die With A Smile (Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars)
We Can't Be Friends (Ariana Grande)
Opalite (Taylor Swift)
Rose (HANA)
Vampire (Olivia Rodrigo)
